If it's free to meet with you, how do you make money?

That’s not a gimmick. It truly is free to meet with us. You’d never hire a professional if the value they can provide does not greatly exceed the cost of their services. 

We need to prove the impact we can make in your life using actual dollars before ever asking for your business. 

Once we do decide to work together, we are compensated in one of two ways:

1.  Percentage of the value of the investments we manage. This is debited directly from your account at the end of each month.

2. Commissions from insurance products, typically life insurance or an annuity. This is paid directly from the insurance company. It does not cost you anything.

Are you a fiduciary? What does that even mean?

We operate within the fiduciary standard at all times. 

It’s important to establish the difference between the fiduciary and suitability standards.

Fiduciary Responsibility 

  • Investment recommendations must be in the best interest of the client. Investment advisors have a legal obligation to act in a moral and ethical manner. 
  • Pertains to Registered Investment Advisors (RIA). 
  • 100% transparency (commission, compensation, and fees).
  • Required to disclose any conflicts of interest. 

Suitability Standard 

  • Broker’s duty is to the broker-dealer they work for, not necessarily the client served. 
  • Not required to disclose fees or conflicts of interest to you. 
  • Insurance agents and registered representatives of broker-dealers (captive advisors, i.e. working for one company). 
  • Defined as making recommendations that are appropriate for the client. 
What if I don't know what to ask?

You don’t need to have a PhD in finance to feel confident about your money in retirement. We promise to answer all of your questions without any industry jargon mumbo jumbo. If you’re wondering how to start the conversation, here are a few specific questions we’re often asked:

  • How do I know if I’ve saved enough to retire?

How are you different than other financial firms?

It should be a major red flag if an advisor cannot answer this question. Quite simply, anyone who tries to be all things to all people cannot specialize in their craft.

We are different in three very specific ways:

1. All we do is retirement planning. We know how to help you worry less, spend more, and pay fewer taxes in retirement. But if you ask us how to create a student loan repayment plan, we’ll look at you like a deer in the headlights. We stay in our lane. 

2. We have no desire of being a massive corporation. Financial planning is a process. By remaining small enough to listen but large enough to deliver, we’re able to truly help our clients accomplish their dreams and goals. 

3. According to various publications, the average age of a financial advisor is 56 with about 20% set to retire in the coming years. That means they’re retiring when you are retiring. Our company is young, so while you’re enjoying the best time of your life, we’ll still be working on your behalf. 

What is included in a retirement plan?

We provide far more than investment management because there is more to your financial life than simply investing. 

Every one of our clients has a customized retirement plan that addresses six main financial necessities and coordinates them together. 

Income: How do we maximize your guaranteed sources of income?

Expenses: How much are you spending and what does that look like after we add inflation?

Investments: Have you created enough balance? That means do you have various investments that provide protection, liquidity, and growth? Think of this as a three-legged stool. Each area must be strong enough to withstand pressure when it is applied (bad economy, etc.). 

Protection: We prepare for the unexpected. This means insurance, such as prepaid funeral expenses, and estate planning. Our clients have access to our estate planning program where they can draft critical documents, such as a trust and will, by an attorney at an incredible price.

Taxes: How do you legally and ethically pay the least amount of taxes over your lifetime?

Healthcare: What is the best Medicare plan for you? What if you need long-term care? Our clients have a strategy for that. 

Do you really want me to spend my money?

Perhaps the costliest mistake retirees make is deferring the enjoyment of their own money. This is because the narrative of retirement planning is fueled by fear and doubt to encourage you to save so financial advisors can continue to collect recurring fees.

It is not in their best interest for you to spend your money because that means they make less money on your money. We operate in a different capacity. We believe a proper retirement plan provides permission to enjoy money without the stress of overspending.
